Technical Presentation

The Pankritio Stadium, which hosted the football qualifying matches during the Olympic Games of 2004, is a modern and fully equipped venue located in Heraklion, on the island of Crete. The venue is comprised of the main pitch, an auxiliary field and racetrack, the indoor gymnastics hall and the adjacent outdoor swimming pool. The stadium constitutes a sport center capable of hosting international competitions, and is also a regional center for entertainment and cultural activities.


Access:

The stadium offers access to the airport, the seaport and the national road of Crete.

The Pankritio stadium consists of

  • Main football field of 68m x 105m and a 400-metres racetrack of 8 lanes

  • Auxiliary football field, as well as a 400-metres racetrack of 6 lanes

  • The areas below the seats house halls for various sports (gymnastics, table tennis, judo, weightlifting, boxing, wrestling etc.) with the necessary auxiliary spaces (dressing rooms, sauna, restaurant, common use areas and administration offices).

The Stadium offers a total capacity of 26.240 permanent seats and 700 parking spaces.

Uses:

In addition to the uses provided for during the period of the Olympic Games, pursuant to Article 14 of Law 3342/2005 (Government Gazette Issue No. 131/A/6-6-2005), the following uses are also permitted:

  • Shops, restaurants
  • Offices, medical stations, press rooms
  • Public areas
  • Recreation and amusement areas
  • Cultural events
  • Training center
  • Tourist accommodation
  • Hosting exhibitions in temporary prefabricated constructions
