Technical Presentation

Part of the Helliniko Complex, the venue which impressed visitors during the Olympic Games of 2004, is one of the foremost human-made white water sport facilities. Already in great demand, the venue is to be incorporated into an amusement park, able to serve the region’s growing interest in extreme sports. The development is sure to become the city’s foremost adventure destination, right in the heart of the new Athens Metropolitan Park.

The Canoe / Kayak Slalom facility is situated on a 280.000 sq. m. site on the northeastern edge of the former Helliniko Airport. The venue consists of the competition course and lake with a total surface of 25.000 square meters, auxiliary building facilities and seating for 5.000 spectators. The building facilities consist of a new building overlooking the course and the renovated Olympic Airlines building (former Cargo facilities).

Uses

In addition to the uses provided for during the period of the Olympic Games, pursuant to Article 23 of Law 3342/2005 (Government Gazette Issue No. 131/A/6-6-2005), the following uses are also permitted:

  •  Public gathering areas

  •  Theme park and water-park
